Analysis
Total drink: ~135g (after shaking; 2½ oz gin at 40%, ½ oz lime, ½ oz simple syrup)
| Component | Amount | % of drink |
|---|---|---|
| Alcohol (ethanol) | ~24g | 17.6% |
| Sugar | ~8g | 5.6% |
| Water + dilution | ~103g | 76.8% |
Spirit-forward at 5:1:1 — roughly 18% ABV finished, just off-dry at ~6% sugar. The heavy gin pour is barely balanced by equal small measures of lime and syrup; shaking adds ~30g of water that pulls it drinkable. Push the syrup up for a rounder gimlet, or the lime for a sharper one — the gin never moves.
Notes
- London Dry gin is the classic choice — clean profile lets the lime shine without competing botanicals.
- The “golden ratio” for sours is 2:1:1 (spirit:sweet:sour). This recipe is more spirit-forward at 5:1:1.
- Fresh lime juice, not Rose’s Lime Cordial. Rose’s was a shelf-stable approximation — use the real thing.
